“I believe that one of the ways we can consume more responsibly, is by choosing well-made, long lasting products.”

I work with a small family business in the West Bengal region in India, known for their exquisite craftsmanship and weaving traditions.

In 2022 I went to visit them and learn about their efforts to employ weavers in rural areas throughout the region.

The weavers work from the comfort of their home, while caring for their family. The fabric is then delivered to the small manufacturing facility where it is is hand dyed with non-toxic, certified organic dyes.

I believe in the importance of sustaining craft traditions like weaving, so artisans living rurally can support themselves, and the techniques can be passed on for generations.

It’s a slow process and each small batch of fabric tells a story about the artisan and their personal way of creating.

The aim is to create aesthetically nourishing and durable designs. Natural materials like cotton, silk and linen age with grace and will last beyond trends.

The materials I work with contain imperfections from the handmade process - irregularities in structure and colour, and signs of use will just add to that story. The textile will change over time, and I think that’s a beautiful reminder of the natural cycle of life.

After years of studying and being curious about sustainable textile production, I choose my methods and partnerships wisely. Nature is my biggest inspiration, and I do my best to create in a resilient and fair way.
